With a TabBar component, you can indicate which tab should be considered active/highlighted by placing a dash ("-") before the name of the item. However, this doesn't help when the TabBar lives on a master, because then any page that inherits the master always shows the selected item as active. Is there any way to get iPlotz to highlight the tab in a TabBar that you are currently viewing? Maybe something that checks if the TabBar contains a link to the current page, then mark it as the active entry? Otherwise, I'm guessing you need to recreate the TabBar on every page, which is incredibly tedious.
The tabbar cannot be set to selection dynamically. What you could use is a snippet. Create a snippet out a tababr and an invisible 1x1 pixel rectangle. Reuse this snippet and change the tab to the desired selection.

Can you give me some more detail about your workaround? What does the 1x1 pixel rectangle do? How does this allow you to dynamically change the selected tab in the TabBar?

You could also place a rectangle with a transparent filling over the active tab to highlight it
